The Inn
In restoring Il Delfino, we appointed our four self serviced suites and bungalow as you might, your own seaside villa. Our spaces are an invitation to experience dolce far niente – the sublime sweetness of doing nothing, or next to nothing. Say, lounging under an umbrella on the Lido Terrace after your morning swim or surf, as fishing boats make their daily pilgrimage back to shore; savouring fresh coffee and a great book on your private balcony, while dolphins glide through the waves just metres away.
OUR STORY
At Il Delfino, we love our community, and it has taken a village of local builders, tradesmen, metalworkers, artists, friends, and family to restore the 1940s oceanfront cottage. Collectively aspiring to remain authentically Australian and aesthetically true to its heritage and coastal location, while embracing contemporary design elements reminiscent of Mediterranean seaside towns. What followed was a creative journey to cherish and preserve while respectfully enhancing all its original beauty.
"Inspirations for Il Delfino’s next chapter lay in reminiscences of my childhood, spent here on the verge of the ocean, together with family travels, staying in old guesthouses and inns along the Mediterranean coast, and the building itself – its location and original design.” Sheree Commerford
ARTIST IN-RESIDENCe
Artist-in-residence Heidi Middleton, a close friend of the Il Delfino family, has painted a series of murals throughout the suites and bungalow. It has been a very special collaboration between close friends over a period of 12 months. With Il Delfino serving as Heidi’s blank canvas, inspiration, and now gallery, we are excited for guests to experience and enjoy these unique works.
LOCATION
An original beauty set within the rocky bluff above Yamba’s Convent Beach, Il Delfino is a private enclave nestled between Lovers Point and Main Beach, looking out to sea. It’s an easy stroll to the village, along the rocky foreshore to beaches, and to the ocean pool and nearby kiosk. Everything is a mere stroll away.
Il Delfino is around 1hr15min from Ballina Airport. Other nearby airports include Coffs Harbour (1hr35min drive) and Gold Coast (1hr55min drive).
Our region is a place where history and culture come together, reflecting the millennia-old traditions and custodianship of the Bundjalung, Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl people, as well as the lasting connections of families who have called this land home for generations. Whether you decide to embrace the Clarence Valley or to create lasting memories here, we extend a warm welcome.
